Website Design challenge |
Placing pages on the Web is deceptively simple. To develop a page, you simply create a word-processed document and embed the HTML tags to format the document for display on the Web. HTML is a fairly straightforward language, the basics of which can be learned in a few hours. This is the easy part of developing Web presentations.
It is a complex and formidable task to design a set of web pages that effectively conveys information that can satisfy user needs and convert surfers to users. The site and its contents need to be:
- Understandable
- Interesting and valuable
- Capable of converting surfers to users
- Consistent and engaging
- a Skillful integration of text, graphics, audio, video, and information extracted from databases
- Easily navigated
- Unified in look and feel
Three Overarching Criteria:
The three essential criteria for designing a successful Web presentation are effectiveness, affectiveness, and navigational efficiency. Effectiveness is a rational criterion requiring that the presentation be complete, sensible organised and accurate in conveying the intended message. Affectiveness is an emotional criterion requiring that the presentation capture viewer attention by being interesting, stimulating, and enjoyable. Navigational efficiency refers to the ease with which users can locate the information they want.
